Cougar Crest Viognier

2014/05/10 by Suzanne Henig Leave a Comment

Cougar-Crest-ViognierWhites-Bottle | $27 | Iron Bridge Wine Company | Cougar Crest has chosen Viognier as their signature white wine. It is the only white grape in their estate vineyards. They chose it for its unique heady aromas, rich mouth feel and the fact that it is so different from Chardonnay! Floral, citrus, and melon aromas tempt the nose, and pear, peach and tropical flavors please the palate. A smooth honey-like finish gives depth and length to a wine that can be sipped by itself but also pair very well with food, such as seared scallops.

Cougar Crest Dedication 7 2010

2014/05/10 by Suzanne Henig Leave a Comment

cougar_crest_dedication_7Reds-Bottle | $25 | Iron Bridge Wine Company | Red blend, Merlot-Syrah-Cab-Petit Verdot – Cougar Crest Winery’s seventh release of Dedication is a blend of four varietals; 50% Merlot, 29% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot. Lush, ripe plums, red currants, black cherries, and a hint of dried roses and herbs on the nose are balanced by acidity and tannins that are smooth and graceful, not overbearing. Rich on the palate and long on the finish, the overall effect shows balance and finesse, a hallmark of Cougar Crest wines. A deeply satisfying wine that is versatile and can be paired with bold, smoky meats, grilled chicken or salmon, lamb stew, or pizza. Enjoy!

The Chook 2012 Shiraz Viognier

2014/05/10 by Suzanne Henig Leave a Comment

TheChook2012Reds-Bottle | $22 | Total Wine | Winemaker’s Notes: The seamless integration of Shiraz co-fermented with Viognier, generates a seductive nose of apricots, spice and ripe berries. The palate is smooth and full of rich flavor, perfect for a long lingering finish of delightfully soft Shiraz fruit, but not without the punch.

“Deep garnet-purple in color and replete with lifted notes of ripe blackberries, freshly crushed blackcurrants and fresh mint with hints of pepper and aniseed, the full-bodied 2012 Shiraz Viognier has plenty of exuberant and juicy, blackberry flavors well supported by lively acidity and a medium level of rounded tannins. It finishes with good length.”
90 Points The Wine Advocate

“Saturated ruby. Floral, fragrant and fresh on the nose, displaying dark berry and oak spice aromas. Zesty blackberry and bitter cherry flavors show good clarity and lift thanks to juicy acidity. Deepens on the persistent finish, featuring peppery spice, vanilla and violet pastille notes.”
90 Points International Wine Cellar

Chamisal Stainless Chardonnay 2012

2014/05/06 by Jason McNamara 2 Comments

chamisalWhites-Case | $13 – $19 | The Perfect Pour | Stainless Chardonnay – unoaked 13.5% alcohol. No oak flavors with this Chardonnay. Grown from our friends on the Central Coast in California near San Luis Obispo. Tastes bursts of tropical fruit, peaches and vanilla flavors. Pairs perfectly to pasta and fish, while impressing your circle of friends that you don’t need an oaked chardonnay.

Alias Secret Agent Red

2014/05/06 by Jason McNamara 2 Comments

aliasReds-Case | $9 – $11 | The Perfect Pour | Mystery Red 13.6% alcohol. Who does not like a little mystery in their life? Alias’ Secret Agent Red is one of the best blends I have tasted, especially under the $10.00 price point. Aromas and flavors of blueberry, chocolate mint flow with a silky, yet fruity and medium bodied finish. It was also ranked a 91 by the beverage testing instate and also ranked top 10 wines under $10.00 in the World. I recommend this wine breathe for a little while – the cabernet sauvignon part of the blend needs to air out.

Zuccardi Q Malbec 2011

2014/04/25 by Frank Hazzard Leave a Comment

Zuccardi_Q_Malbec_2011Reds-Bottle | $14 | Village Liquors of Clarksville (on Route 108) | I generally don’t like Malbecs, so consider this high praise. It passed the two-bottle test—my original enthusiasm was sustained over an interval. Full-bodied and rich. Nice finish. Very young, though—open early and swirl, swirl, swirl.

Berberana Gran Tradicion Cava Brut

2014/04/25 by Julie Boughn Leave a Comment

Berberana_Gran_Tradicion_Cava_BrutBubbles-Case | $11 | The Perfect Pour | Fantastic value in a typical Spanish Cava. Pale, straw color with lively bubbles. Dry, but without making you pucker. 11.5% alcohol. I loved this Cava; almost perfect blend of fruit and spice, with a touch of citrus. Try it while you’re hanging out with friends in your kitchen on a warm spring or summer day, with a seafood dish or rich dessert. I think this may also work with some spicy Thai food. Factoring in the price, this wine is a must-have, especially as the weather is warming up.

Brunello di Montalcino, La Lecciaia 2007 Reserve

2014/04/25 by John Seed Leave a Comment

fattoria-la-lecciaia-brunello-di-montalcino-reserve-2007Reds-Glass | $39 | Pine Orchard | Be sure you try the Reserve version of this one! Drinking the Brunello di Montalcino, La Lecciaia 2007 Reserve and its non-reserve cousin on the same night was interesting and instructive. I started the non-reserve bottle 2 nights ago, and was a bit disappointed, but when I went back to the store looking for some Italian reds for tonight’s Lasgna dinner, I saw the reserve, and was instantly suspicious that the high rating quoted for the bottles receiving prominent display at the front of the store were actually meant for the Reserve. Well the reserve was definitely better than the non-reserve, but still not “95-97”. [more detailed review on the way]
